We've been inching along and crossing stuff off our 100+ item to-do list. As we finish rooms we'll provide retrospectives that show the complete transition.
Before walking you through a new project we had to share an incident from a recent trip to Home Depot. Apparently you don't need to be wearing an orange apron to look as though you know what you're doing. We were in the trim/molding section cutting some pieces when a 30-something man came up and said, "You seem like you know what you're doing." He wanted advice on what to do with his 4-foot piece of 1/4-round molding. Specifically, he wanted to know what sort of nails to use. When we said he wanted finishing nails with small heads he nodded in the classic "I don't know what you said but I feel too embarrassed to ask again." Instead he asked if he could find these in the nails section. Considering that HD has a whole aisle of nails and screws with hundreds of options, it was clear this chap doesn't put the "Y" in DIY. We'd been in his position before. To the uninitiated HD can be intimidating, but after so many visits we think it's no scarier than a corner grocery store.
Onto a new project. We needed a place to store shoes near the side door because there isn't enough space on the steps or landing. So we decided to make some space. The new jigsaw (seen in picture one) sure makes jobs like this easier, including more precise and clean drywall cuts.
Now all we need to do is seal the edges, put some trim around the opening, and paint/stain the whole thing.
