Day Twenty-three: New Year, More Demolition

When you're in the home remodeling game, it seems to dominate every conversation. Someone told us recently about their experience hanging doors at 1am. Ha, ha! What fools! We silently assured ourselves that would never happen to us. Well, as we sit down to dinner for the second consecutive night at 10pm we now see how that can happen. We're pretty sure the technical term is "temporary insanity".

But at least the house is coming along nicely. First let's catch you up on an ongoing project before getting to exciting new stuff. The effort to expunge the 27-year-old wood burning stove from the house continues along. The inch-thick fire guard that it sat on has been removed along with the damaged floor tiles below it.

A little smoke, mirrors, a trip to Home Depot and voila! A new floor is born.

Consider that the appetizer because here's the hearty main course--Mr. Wrecking Ball paid a visit to Mr. Kitchen today.

All of this....

Became this (Yes, that's the dishwasher in the middle of the floor and the refrigerator by the front door)....

The sink went from this....

To this....

The stovetop changed from this....

To this....admit it, doesn't this look better?

Around the corner from the stove...sorry, the former stove...was a breakfast nook with a built-in bookshelf. This area will soon have our refrigerator and pantry so bye-bye nook.

Hello open space!

Finally, the floor just had to go. A fairly blah floor tile is going to become hardwood floors, but not before revealing all the secrets beneath it. Hmm...maybe we should rethink getting rid of the mottled, mint green tiles.
